Bargarh: Dozens of farmers staged a massive protest at Garbhana Chhak in Bargarh district on Thursday against the prevailing water crisis for irrigation.
The agitators staged a blockade and dharna demanding immediate solution to their problems.
Expressing strong resentment over the alleged failure of the district administration to supply water to canals to irrigate their fields, one of the agitated farmers said “We have been facing the grave situation as our agricultural fields have started turning barren due to acute water scarcity and we are unable to generate a livelihood from agriculture.”
The agitation will be intensified in the days to come, if the administration fails to sort out the issue, the agitator added.
The farmers dispersed only after Bheden tehsildar Kulamani Ranabida reached the spot and assured them of taking prompt action for providing water supply.
