New York: This is a size problem that even Viagra can’t help. Human fertility is under threat with more babies being born with small penises due to rising pollution in the past few years, a US-based environmental scientist has warned.
Dr Shanna Swan, in her new book titled ‘Count Down’, has said humanity is facing an “existential crisis” in fertility rates as human penises are shrinking and genitals becoming malfunctioned due to pollution, putting human reproduction in a challenging situation.
This is happening as a result of phthalates — a chemical used when manufacturing plastics. Dr Swan warned that this chemical is being transmitted into toys and foods, subsequently harming human development, according to a report in India Today.
Dr Swan, who is a professor in environmental medicine and public health at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, has attempted to examine “how our modern world is threatening sperm counts, altering male and female reproductive development” that imperil the future of the human race.
In her research, she examined that the phthalate syndrome and found that when foetuses were exposed to the chemical, they were likely to be born with shrunken genitals.
