Five Candidates In Fray For Bijepur Bypoll After Scrutiny Of Nominations

Bargarh: Following scrutiny of nomination papers on Tuesday, five candidates remained in fray for Bijepur bypoll scheduled to be held on October 21.

According to sources, nominations of Samajwadi Party candidate Gangadhara Purohit and independent candidate Dolamani Behera were rejected.

The candidates in the fray are Rita Sahu (BJD), Sanat Gartia (BJP), Dillip Panda (Congress), Ashok Mittal (All-India Hindu Mahasabha) and Brundaban Purohit (Independent). Last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 3.
While polling in 285 booths will be held on October 21, counting of votes will be done on October 24.
The bypoll in Bijepur assembly segment in Bargarh district was necessitated after BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik resigned from the seat. He had contested and won from Hinjili and Bijepur in the last assembly elections.
