Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday secured the conviction of a former Section Officer of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in a bribery case during his tenure in the authority.
The convicted official, identified as Tarini Charan Das, was a Section Officer in the Allotment Section of the BDA. He has since retired from government service.
Das was charge-sheeted in a case under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case relates to an allegation that he had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an applicant in connection with the transfer of ownership of a house.
Following the trial, the Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, convicted Das and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
The Vigilance department said it will now approach the competent authority seeking stoppage of pension payable to Das following his conviction.
