Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Akrura Majhi, former PEO of Saramuli gram panchayat (GP) in Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district, for allegedly bungling government funds amounting to Rs 53 lakh.

“Majhi misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs. 53, 38, 809 by not executing developmental works in Saramuli GP during 31.10.23 to 18.11.2024, while he was working as PEO,” an official release said.

He reflected the execution of different works in the cash book and showed payment of the total amount against the works done, causing huge losses to the state exchequer. “He has been arrested and is being forwarded to Special Judge Court, Vigilance, Phulbani,” it further stated.

A case under Sections 13(2)r/w13(1) of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018  and 316(5) of BNS has been registered against him.
