Bhubaneswar: With cold wave conditions intensifying in Odisha, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district became the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 5.2 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.
G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal, was closely followed by Rourkela which recorded 7.2 degree Celsius during the period. The night temperature in the steel city dropped from 8.1 degree Celsius recorded on Friday.
Dense fog engulfed some places in Kandhamal, while shallow fog was witnessed in some parts of Kalahandi.
The mercury also plummeted below 15 degree Celsius in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which recorded 14 degree Celsius (-2) and 12 degree Celsius (-2.5) respectively, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The temperature dropped below 10 degree Celsius in several places of the state with Jharsuguda recording 8 degree Celsius, while the mercury fell to 8.8 degree in Kirei.
Both Phulbani in Kandhamal and Semiliguda in Koraput recorded 9 degree Celsius, while the mercury dropped to 10 degree Celsius in Sundargarh.
As per the weather agency, the cold conditions are expected to persist throughout the coming week.
Cold wave condition likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh till December 16 and the IMD issued yellow warning for these areas during the period.
