Gambhir Steps Down As Delhi Daredevils Skipper After Poor Show
New Delhi: After the rough stint in the current Indian Premier League season, Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir stepped down from captaincy on Wednesday. Batsman Shreyas Iyer will now take over the reins of the franchise.
Delhi Daredevils continued its poor show in this season of IPL as well, after it lost five of its six matches.
“It was my decision. I haven’t contributed enough to the team. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. I feel it was the right time,” Gambhir said at a press conference.
Gambhir’s performance with the bat has been disappointing as he has scored 55, 15, 8, 3 and 4 in the matches so far.
Delhi are currently at the bottom of the table, having won one match against Mumbai Indians.
Taking over captaincy, Shreyas Iyer said, “I am ready for the new challenge. I want to thank the management and my coaches for appointing me. It is a great honour for me.”
