Govt Schools In Odisha To Run Till 9AM In May, Midday Meals To Continue

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has stuck to its plan of continuing classes in schools with a curtailed summer break with the IMD predicting some relief from the searing heatwave under the influence of Nor’wester. Classes will resume from May 2 with a revised timing of 6 am to 9 am, after a five-day break.

“The schools will run till 9 am during this month, and close after the midday meals (MDM) are served,” School and Mass Education Department Secretary Bishnupada Sethi informed on Sunday.

He further said that the temperature at any station in Odisha by 8.30 am is likely to be around 32 to 34 degree Celsius and touch 33 degree Celsius by 9 am. “The children will benefit from learning loss recovery lessons and MDM. There is no risk to them on account of summer heat since government and government-aided schools in their vicinity,” he added.

Notably, the MeT office has forecast a slight drop in the maximum temperature at several places in interior Odisha with Nor’wester becoming active from Sunday.
