Ahmedabad: Gujarat Samachar owner Bahubali Shah, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering case earlier on Friday, was granted bail on health grounds.
After Shah was taken into custody following ED raids at multiple locations linked to him, the 73-year-old media baron fell ill and had to be hospitalised.
“Yes, the information is correct. Bahubalibhai has been arrested in an old case. We don’t have much details as yet about the charges… we are being targeted,” said Shreyansh Shah, the newspaper’s managing editor and Bahubali’s elder brother, told Deccan Herald.
Gujarat Samachar, founded in 1932, is a widely read newspaper published from Ahmedabad and several other cities in Gujarat and also in parts of Maharashtra.
The arrest of Shah led to a political row as well as chatter on social media.
