Gusty Girls Steal The Thunder With BrahMos, Rafale Formations On R-Day In City

Bhubaneswar: Depicting undying valour, girls from Maharishi Daredevils drove down the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Saturday, as a part of state-level Republic Day celebrations.

The two-and-a-half minute act started with a youth riding a bullet and a girl standing on the rear seat. With a flag attached to the two-wheeler, the two performed BrahMos missile formation. While Chinmayee Bhuyiaan commanded this formation, another group of girls followed them showcasing ‘Nari Shakti Deshara Surkhaya Re’, celebrating and appreciating every woman joining defence and combats.

Riding bullets and motorcycles, with tricolour in their hands, they perfected the formations with ease.

“It’s an aerial view. Through this, we want to show that women are no less than men, and can do all it takes to take care of our nation,” said Flight Lieutenant Mihir Saran, their trainer.

The combat act on ladder-fitted bullet was followed by girls in motorcycles, forming the map of India.

The final act by 61 boys on seven bullets was the Rafael aircraft formation.

Maharishi Daredevils have been performing on Republic Day and Independence Day in the city since 2011. The team goes with the motto – 3D – Discipline, Duty, and Dedication.

“Currently, more than 500 students are undergoing training. In this show, there were 35 girls and 62 boys,” said Swikruti, one of the members and a student of R D Women’s University.

Dhaneswar Barik trained the boys and girls for the formations. “We did rigorous practice at PMG since one month for effective results,” Swikruti added.

Mihir said the training for both girls are boys are done together. “We are trying to remove gender bias and prejudices. Women are capable of anything and they have lately been in news for their commendable work in all fields. Girls here are equally talented and hard-working and I admire that,” he added.
