Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar Police have cracked down on a ganja smuggling racket, arresting seven accused and seizing 52.6 kg of ganja in commercial quantity.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a white Honda City near Rosy Villa at Prachi Vihar, Rasulgarh. Five men were transporting the contraband from Kandhamal, while two others, named Kishan and Prakash, were waiting to receive it for sale. As the car arrived around 9.45 am on Thursday, police surrounded the vehicle and nabbed all seven despite their attempt to flee.
The contraband, packed in two jute bags, was recovered from the car’s trunk. All the accused were produced in court with a request for 14-day remand.
Further investigation is underway, police said.
