Bhubaneswar: The regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm in northern and southern parts of the state during the next 24 hours.
“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, a low pressure area formed over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Bangladesh at 8:30 am today. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level,” an IMD bulletin said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, while Sundargarh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Boudh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal and Sambalpur may experience heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, it said.
Thunderstorm accompanied by gusty surface wind from northeasterly direction in North Coastal Odisha and westerly direction in South Coastal Odisha with speed reaching 40-45 KMPH and gusting to 55 KMPH is likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. As the sea condition would be moderate to rough, the weatherman has advised fishermen not to venture into sea.
