Heavy Rain To Continue In Bhubaneswar & Cuttack Till 6PM; Orange & Yellow Alerts For 23 Odisha Dists

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for several places, including twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, in Odisha till 5 pm on Tuesday.

Orange warning of moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense/heavy spells of rain has been issued for Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Khurda. Yellow warning of light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning has also been sounded for Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

According to the MeT office, a few spells of rain/thundershowers with one or two intense spells (2-3 cm/hr) is likely to continue in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack till 6 pm. It has warned of temporary traffic congestion, poor visibility due to intense rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Notably, torrential rainfall and thundershowers for close to five hours on Monday afternoon had brought Bhubaneswar on its knee as roads turned into streams and water entered many houses in Laxmisagar, Bomikhal, Old Town, Nayapalli and Shastri Nagar areas. Massive traffic jam was also witnessed on Janpath, Rajpath, Bijut Marg, Cuttack-Puri highway, Jayadev Vihar, Nandankanan Road, Jagamara road and the stretch between Fire Station Square and Airport Square.

With the depression over Northeast Bay of Bengal intensifying into deep depression, the IMD now issued red warning of extremely heavy rain for two days in Odisha.
