Hero To Sell Harley Davidson In India

New Delhi: Here is good news for Harley-Davidson fans! Hero MotoCorp on Tuesday entered into an agreement with Harley-Davidson to sell the latter’s motorcycles in India. Harley had recently halted operations in India citing losses after being in business for 11 years here.

According to the distribution agreement, Hero will be taking care of selling and servicing Harley’s motorcycles and merchandise via Harley’s exclusive brand outlets and also through Hero’s dealership network.

The American brand’s products come in the premium segment while Hero is one of the largest sellers of commuter and under 250 cc segment motorcycles in the world. Harley recently rejigged its business under ‘The Rewire’ plan to change its business model in India and some parts of the world.

“This arrangement is mutually beneficial for both companies and riders in India, as it brings together the iconic Harley-Davidson brand with the strong distribution network and customer service of Hero MotoCorp,” Hero said in a statement.

While India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market, it is also highly price-sensitive. This is precisely why premium motorcycles like Harley struggled to make a mark here.

Harley sold just 11,753 units in FY16 and 4,533 units in FY20.
