Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday put a stay on the recruitment of constables for the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).
The stay on the recruitment has come following allegations of preferential treatment related to age eligibility. Those applicants, who were previously considered ‘over age’, claimed they were excluded from consideration in an unfair way.
Earlier, a directive from the High Court’s single bench had ensured that these candidates would be provided an opportunity.
The examinations were conducted for these ‘over age’ candidates in compliance with High Court directions. However, the results of these exams are yet to be announced.
Initially, the recruitment for over 1,800 constable position in IRB was set to commence on March 17. However, the High Court has now put a halt to these proceedings. The court posted the matter to March 20 for the next hearing.
