Bhubaneswar: With some hours left for the much-awaited inaugural ceremony of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, special arrangements have been made for the spectators at the Kalinga Stadium here.

As per the advice of the Health department, the commissionerate police have set up a patient transportation corridor in the stadium to admit any ailing or injured spectator or player either in the Apollo Hospital or the Capital Hospital.

A mock drill was conducted at the stadium on Monday to record the time taken to admit the patient in these two hospitals. During the mock drill, the ambulance van took five minutes to reach the Apollo Hospital and 10 minutes to reach the Capital Hospital.

After the mock drill, the police said there could be a slight delay in admitting the patients in these two hospitals depending on the traffic movement.

Apart from this, the Health department has set up first-aid kiosks in the three gallery stands of the stadium with ambulance vans for each gallery stand for which the St. John Ambulance and the Health department have provided four and two ambulance vans respectively.

According to Purushottam Bal, an officer of the St John Ambulance, 16 trained volunteers will be engaged in admitting the patients in the hospitals.

“The Health department has classified the nature of casualty in red, yellow, blue and black categories. Patients with critical illness or injuries would come under the red category and efforts will be made to save their lives. Patients in the yellow category will be treated as serious while the blue category patients would be identified with minor illness or injury. However, there will be no duty for the volunteers for the black category patients, who will be treated as dead,” Bal added.

To prevent stampede inside the stadium, special arrangements have been made by the commissionerate police to ensure smooth movement of the spectators to their respective gallery.

The commissionerate police have advised the spectators not to carry certain articles like the water bottles, match boxes, coins, small knives and lighters inside the stadium. If any spectator is found carrying such articles, he/she will have to keep these with the security personnel at the entrance gate of the stadium.

Of the nine gates of the stadium, the spectators will enter the stadium through the gate number 1,3,5,6,7 and 8. While the VVIPs, VIPs including the Governor and Chief Minister will enter the gate number-9, the gate number-2 is meant for the entry of the mediapersons, match officials and the pass holders while the players will enter the stadium through gate number-4.
