Puri: Stepping up the crackdown on drug smugglers in Odisha’s Puri, police on Tuesday demolished three illegally constructed houses belonging to notorious Tiki Khan.
Tiki Khan happens to be the son-in-law of alleged brown sugar dealer Sukanti Panda. Four houses of Sukanti Panda were earlier razed on December 4 as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics operation. As per sources, Sukanti Panda is currently lodged in jail after she had been arrested for allegedly selling 200 grams of brown sugar.
The latest demolition was carried out on Tuesday in Nilachakra Nagar area, where Tiki Khan’s houses were brought down using JCB machines. The action is part of an ongoing campaign by the police to dismantle the assets and influence of drug traffickers operating in the area.
The decision to demolish the illegal structure followed verification that the structures had been constructed on government land in an unauthorised manner. The demolition was carried out after obtaining the necessary administrative approvals, officials said.
The law enforcement agencies have intensified the drive under ‘Operation Chakra’ to curb illegal drug trade by targeting properties allegedly built with the proceeds from narcotics business.
Senior police officials said the drive would continue in the days ahead as a deterrent against organised drug networks.
