Cuttack: The students of Ravenshaw University, here, who are fast-unto-death demanding withdrawal of vice-chancellor’s decision on closure of campus gates, will meet Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal in Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The agitating students will meet the Governor, who is the chancellor of the university, on the latter’s invitation for holding discussion on their problems. They will also submit the charter of demands to Prof Lal.
The students had started a dharna in front of the main gate of the prestigious university on Tuesday. They resorted to hunger strike after their demand went unheard by the university authorities.
They have been opposing the decision of the vice-chancellor to close three gates (number 1, 2 and 3) of the university from 6 pm to 8 am everyday and total close on Sunday and holidays.
They pointed out that by keeping only the gate 4 facing Chhatra Bazaar opened in the evening, the authorities were putting the safety of the students and their relatives at risk from anti-social elements. It has also led to uninterrupted movement of outside vehicles and disturbances by the non-students in the campus, they added.
Besides, the students were unable to get their essential materials, which they used to procure from the markets opposite other gates. Now, they have to walk around 2 km to go to those shops, they added.
