IIMC Alumni Association Meets; Proposes Group Health Cover For Journalists
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) has proposed group health insurance for all its alumni.
This was proposed at the 10th Annual Alumni Meet of Indian Institute of Mass Communication – Koo Connections 2022 (Odisha chapter) and 6th Alumni Awards – IFFCO IIMCAA Awards which was held in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Director, IIMC, Dhenkanal, Dr Mrinal Chatterjee; Governing Council Member from Central Committee, Dadan Viswakarma; President, Odisha chapter, Sanjay Sahoo and General Secretary Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra attended the event.
Dr Chatterjee emphasised on creating a stronger bond within the alumni which would help in times of need. Founder member of IIMCAA, Ritesh Verma spoke about the challenges faced by journalists during COVID and urged all members to strongly pitch for group insurance cover.
Senior journalist Sarada Lahangir was awarded Journalist of the year- Publishing, for her story on common people affected by Maoist menace with a special focus on women and children.
The award in Indian Language reporter of the year (broadcasting) went to Jyotismita Nayak for her story on local farmers and environmentalists of Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur.
Senior journalists Jajati Karan, Sharda Lahangir, Tapan Swain, Sobha Surin, Pabitra Mohan Senapati, Sangita Agarwal and Pradeepta Tripathy were felicitated by the organisers as part of the Silver Jubilee (1996-97) celebrations.
More than 150 alumni connected at the event. Another meet is scheduled at IIMC campus, Dhenkanal on April 23 where the scholarship for digital media will be awarded from the existing batch.
