Bhubaneswar: IIT Madras is the best educational institute in India, according to the NIRF Ranking released by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.
The institute has also topped among engineering institutes and it has obtained a rank among the best management colleges as well as the best research institutes. The second-best college, IISc, Bengaluru, has sustained its rank as the best university and research institute in the country.

SOA, Bhubaneswar, has topped the table from Odisha by securing the 30th position among the top 100 institutes in the country, followed by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar at 34, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, at 39 and IIT-Bhubaneswar at 65.
SOA, KIIT, NIT-Rourkela and IIT-Bhubaneswar were ranked 37th, 39th, 41th and 58th respectively last year.
NIT-Rourkela has jumped to 15th position from 20th since last year in the engineering category, while SOA, Bhubaneswar, has been ranked 27th and IIT-Bhubaneswar, 36th, and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, 42nd.
In research, NIT-Rourkela has been ranked 24th, followed by IIT-Bhubaneswar, at 37, SOA, Bhubaneswar, at 45 and KIIT, Bhubaneswar, at 47.
The annual overall ranking list is prepared based on institutes’ performances in areas such as teaching, learning, resources, research, and professional practice, among others, and these are ranked depending on their areas of operation including overall, university, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, architecture, dental and research.
