Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on July 2 which may intensify gradually into a depression the next day, according to Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University
It is likely to intensify into a deep depression on July 4 under the influence of which moderate to heavy rainfall may drench the state from July 1 to 5, a CEC bulletin said.
Coastal Odisha could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 2 and 3 while interior parts of the state were likely to receive heavy to very heavy downpour from July 3 to 5, it said adding light to moderate rain might continue over Odisha from June 27 to July 1.
In its extended range outlook, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has earlier forecast the likely formation of a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 2. Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to develop over the North Bay of Bengal around July 3-4. The system is then likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the second week.
Meanwhile fairly widespread to widespread rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) may continue in Odisha from June 28-July 3. Heavy rainfall may also occur on June 28-29. The intensity of the spell is likely to increase on June 30-July 1.
