New Delhi: Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand after receiving an email warning that Khalistani militants may target key sites, officials said.
The advisory reportedly lists a number of temples in both regions as potential targets and also names government buildings, railway stations and police facilities. Authorities are treating the email seriously while probing its origin and authenticity, ANI reported.
Uttarakhand Police, central intelligence units and the Delhi Police have been placed on heightened alert. Security at sensitive sites is being reviewed and strengthened as a precaution, though no precise timing or locations have been identified, officials added.
The warning follows tensions in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, where a standoff involving Nihang Sikhs at the Nagrasu gurdwara ended on June 23 after a Sikh delegation intervened.
The clash traces back to arrests made after a confrontation in Karnaprayag market on June 16. On June 25, a group of Nihangs crossed into Uttarakhand via the Kulhal border in Dehradun district demanding the release of the detained members; they were persuaded to return to Paonta Sahib, officials said.
Intelligence agencies previously circulated similar alerts. In late January, warnings flagged potential strikes by proscribed Khalistani groups and Bangladesh-based militants around Republic Day.
In February, another advisory flagged a possible threat near the Red Fort and cautioned that a temple in Chandni Chowk could be targeted. Agencies have also said Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba has kept certain religious sites, including areas around the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk, under surveillance.
