New Delhi: Amid the coronavirus pandemic, there has also been an increase in cyber attacks, especially during the last two months.
According to a report by digital technology provider Subex, India is among the top five countries to be attacked by cyber criminals.
Across the sectors, enterprise and manufacturing have received maximum threats. There has been a total 68% rise in coronavirus-themed phishing emails in the last three months, it said.
The report also claims that the hackers belong to North Korea and are carrying out specific attacks. It also cited reference to a recent attack at Cosmos Bank based in Pune, which had cost India $12 million.
“From attacking financial firms, to siphoning money, to attacking nuclear power plants, to getting information on various operational aspects and targeting diplomatic cables, North Korean hackers are getting more brazen and unpredictable,” Managing Director and CEO of Subex Vinod Kumar told Financial Express.
Besides, there have been new variants of malware like ‘Locky’ and ‘Sadogo’ attacking the companies. These malwares originate from mainly the dark web, malware forums, academic/ research labs and various unknown sources, he added.
