New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the attack on Kuwait airport on Wednesday which killed an Indian national, calling upon all parties to cease strikes on civilian population and civilian infrastructure.
“We condemn the attack on the Kuwait International Airport today in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured. Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks,” MEA said in a statement.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Our Embassy is extending all possible assistance to those injured. We remain in close contact with local authorities for the welfare of Indian nationals.
Indian Missions and Posts across the region are on alert and continue to proactively support our community,” it added, as reported by The Times of India.
Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi said that his country halted air traffic operations after Iranian strikes struck Terminal One, resulting in casualties and damage to airport infrastructure, state-run KUNA news agency reported. The airport was partially re-opened later.
The strikes came as Iranian semi-official news agencies reported that Tehran had suspended communications with mediators over efforts to extend the ceasefire in its conflict with the United States and Israel. A regional official said Iran was insisting on enforcement of the Lebanon truce before resuming talks, a claim disputed by US president Donald Trump, who said negotiations were still ongoing.
India had condemned similar strikes on the United Arab Emirates in the past. Indian nationals had suffered injuries in attacks on an oil facility at Fujairah.
