New Delhi: India’s approach has always been measured and responsible, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on X after a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday.
“Had a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning. India’s approach has always been measured and responsible and remains so,” he wrote.
Rubio has asked both India and Pakistan to identify methods to de-escalate. “Secretary Rubio emphasized that both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation. He further proposed U.S. support in facilitating productive discussions to avert future disputes,” the statement issued by the U.S. Department of State, quoting Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, said.
Heightened military tensions erupted between India and Pakistan after the former conducted strikes on nine terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’ early Wednesday, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, which claimed 26 lives, primarily tourists.
Earlier in the day during a special briefing, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh had also asserted that Indian armed forces are committed to non-escalation, provided the Pakistan side reciprocates. She also mentioned that Pakistan was targeting medicare centres and school premises at Indian air bases.
Pakistan Army is moving its troops towards forward areas, signalling possible offensive intentions, she added.
