Bhubaneswar: Severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and high-velocity wind is likely to hit several parts of Odisha over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
The weather agency has also predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activity in several parts of the state over the next few days. Orange and yellow warnings of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds have been issued for different districts up to this week-end.
There will be gradual rise in maximum temperature (day temperature) by 2-3°C during next four days in the state and no large change has been predicted thereafter.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur during the next 24 hours.
Similarly, yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh during the period.
Hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
On June 3-4, orange warning of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) has been issued for the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Nabarangpur.
Likewise, yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh during the period.

The MeT Centre has further stated that conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu around June 4.
