New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) was suspended indefinitely on Friday due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. “IPL 2025 suspended with immediate effect, in view of India-Pakistan tension,” ANI reported, quoting BCCI sources.
“We want to be seen standing with the nation. Our priority is the nation. Safety of players paramount. Cricket not above the nation,” a BCCI source told Times Now on condition of anonymity.
The development comes after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was called off amid safety issues. The venue is located less than 100 kilometres from Pathankot. Air raid alerts were sounded at Pathankot on Thursday evening, prompting the BCCI to take the decision.
According to reports, foreign players were worried for their safety. Australian media had earlier reported that their players had also expressed concerns over their safety. The Australian players were “ready” to return home, reports claimed.
