Mumbai: Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, who became a popular face in India after the success of her Bollywood film ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ opened up about the controversy around Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback.
Asked how she feels about protests against Pakistani artists working in India, Mawra told The Times of India, “I don’t take it personally. This is how the world works, right? I truly believe if it’s meant to happen, it will. I block out the noise around my work. I love to do what I do, so I do not let these things affect me. It is truly the producer’s headache — which is sad — but it is their problem. If I invest my mind into thinking, ‘Oh, what’s going to happen,’ I will always be restless.”
Talking about Fawad’s upcoming film ‘Abir Gulaal’, she added, “When my colleagues do well, we definitely reach out to each other. We wish each other luck. I truly wish the best for everyone. I hope this film does really well.”
After nearly 9 years, Pakistani heartthrob Fawad is making a comeback to Bollywood with the romcom ‘Abir Gulaal’, alongside Vaani Kapoor.
He was last seen in Karan Johar’s Bollywood film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.’
Helmed by Aarti S Bagdi, ‘Abir Gulaal’ also stars Riddhi Dogra, Lisa Haydon, Soni Razdan, Farida Jalal, and Parmeet Sethi, among others, in pivotal roles.
Bankrolled by Vivek B. Agarwal, the film is scheduled to be released in theatres on May 9.
While fans are eagerly looking forward to Fawad’s comeback on silver screen, political parties including, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena are protesting against the release of the film in Maharashtra.
“We came to know about the release of this film only today, when the makers of the film announced it. But we are clearly saying that we will not allow this film to be released in Maharashtra because it features a Pakistani actor. We will not allow such films to be released in Maharashtra under any circumstances. We are gathering more information related to this film and will then put forward our full statement on it,” Ameya was quoted as saying by Dainik Bhaskar.
On the work front, Mawra recently collaborated with the ‘Kabir Singh’ fame singer Akhil Sachdeva for a Bollywood music video titled ‘Tu Chaand Hai.’
The music video was released on April 4.
