Jajpur PEO Death: Family Gets ‘Threats’, To Leave Odisha In Two Days

Jajpur: Family members of Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Haridaspur in Jajpur district Smitarani Biswal, who died under mysterious circumstances on October 16, have made up their mind to leave their native place.

Talking to the media on Friday, Smitarani’s father Sadananda Biswal said his family had been receiving threats since the day his daughter was found hanging in a guesthouse.

“They will engage goons to take revenge on us. Under these circumstances, we are not feeling safe. My two sons are officers in the Indian Navy and residing in Mumbai and Delhi. I have decided to stay with them. I am planning to leave my native place within two days,” he said.

Biswal also said that he had not received any assurance of justice either from the police or any political leader. “Under whose assurance, I will live here? My neighbours are supporting me. But how long they will continue to do so?”

Meanwhile, a nine-member team of the BJP lead by the leader of the Opposition Pradipta Nayak arrived at Jajpur on Friday. The team is scheduled to meet the family members of Smitarani and interact with the villagers.

Besides, the team will also visit Ramco Industrial Estate and the guesthouse, where Smitarani was found hanging.

Talking to mediapersons in Bhubaneswar, Nayak questioned the ongoing police investigation in the case. “The Jajpur SP indulged in character assassination of Smitarani. We suspect a foul play. We will take up this matter with the Union Home Minister and request him for a CBI probe into the incident,” Nayak added.
