Bhubaneswar: Trees and electric poles were uprooted in some parts of Bhubaneswar as Kalbaisakhi-induced heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed the Odisha capital for more than an hour on Friday morning.
Fire Service personnel were later seen clearing the uprooted trees at Pokhariput, Old Town, Chintamaniswar, Chandrasekharpur, Gajapati Nagar, Behera Dhaba, Balakati Road, and other areas in the city.

The sky in Bhubaneswar wore a menacing look before being hit by sudden Nor’wester this morning. The downpour, driven by strong winds, brought traffic to a standstill. People, caught unawares by the rain, were seen taking shelter under flyovers and overbridges. Waterlogging was also reported in several low-lying areas of the city.
The capital city recorded the highest gusty wind speed of 68 kmph and 26.2 mm of rainfall between 10 am and 11.30 am, according to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of light to moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph in some parts of Khurda, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Gajapati districts till 4 pm.
