Bhubaneswar: After Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Odisha government has decided to rid the Lingaraj Temple of encroachments.
A squad comprising officials of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the temple administration conducted a survey on Tuesday to demarcate government, private and temple land around the shrine and evict encroachers.
The survey work will continue on Wednesday before the eviction. According to sources, the areas surrounding Bindu Sagar may also be evicted.
According to BDA officials, the move is necessary for the conservation of the temple and to manage traffic, which is in a mess due to unregulated and unauthorised construction and encroachments by roadside vendors.
