Local Cases Surge Continues To Trouble Odisha’s Balasore; COVID-19 Tally Touches 636

Balasore: The COVID-19 tally in Balasore district touched 636 on Thursday with 21 more people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Of 21 positive cases, 17 are local cases while two are from quarantine centres and another two detected among those in home quarantine.

Of 17 local cases, 15 cases are the contacts of previous positive cases and it includes one Corona Warrior. Among the four quarantine cases, each had a travel history to Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra respectively.

Contact tracing of all positive cases is underway, the administration tweeted.

There has been a surge in local contact cases in the district in the last few days. On July 9, 25 of the total 30 new cases were infected through local contacts. A day later, four such cases were detected and one among them was a close contact of previous positive cases. On July 12, six of the total 11 patients were local contact cases. All eight new COVID-19 cases detected the following day were local contact cases. July 15 saw a further spike of 41 in such cases. A total of 61 new positive cases was reported on this day, according to the district administration tweets.

With 451 recoveries, Balasore now has 183 active cases.
