Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure system set to form on Saturday, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to batter several parts of Odisha over the next one week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea around the evening of September 19 and may later intensify while moving towards the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the subsequent four days.
Meteorological authorities are monitoring the system closely and will issue further updates as it evolves. While the system is likely to intensify into a depression, the IMD is yet to make any clear forecast about the possibility of it becoming a cyclonic storm.
The has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for several Odisha districts till September 25 under influence of emerging system.
An orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind has been issued for 15 districts during the next 24 hours. These districts are Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Additionally, heavy rain is likely to occur at some places over the district of Mayurbhanj. IMD has issued a yellow warning to Mayurbhanj district.
On September 19-20, heavy rain is likely to lash the districts of Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, where a yellow warning has been issued.
This apart, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
From September 20 to 22, yellow warning of thunderstorms has been issued for several districts.
On September 22-23, the IMD has issued an orange warning for Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind.
The IMD has issued orange warning to several districts predicting heavy to very heavy rain to several districts till September 25.
