Mahanadi Floodwater Enters 2 Blocks In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Floodwater of the swelling Mahanadi entered four panchayats in Banki block and one panchayat in Tigiria block on Thursday.

According to sources, road communication from Subarnapur village to Bondala village has been disrupted with floodwater overflowing at a height of around 4 feet over Huluhula bridge at Uttarbanki.

Floodwater was also flowing on Puruna Cuttack-Sambalpur road at Dhabaleswar in Athagarh block and on the road near Badabandhiani in Tigiria block.

According to the data available with the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level in Hirakud dam in Sambalpur was 620.47 feet against the optimum level of 630 feet at 9 am on Thursday.

The discharge of floodwater through 12 gates of the dam was 1,85,978 cusecs per second while it was 4.90 lakh cusecs per second at Kharimal, 7,20,500 lakh cusecs per second at Barmul and 6.83 lakh cusecs per second at Mundali.

Besides, the water level of Naraj river was 25.82 metres against the danger level of 26.41 metres. In view of the constant rise in the water level, floodwater is being released through 31 gates of the barrage.
