Bhubaneswar: With heavy rain lashing most parts of southern, northern and coastal districts of Odisha under the influence of deep depression, flood threat is looming large in these districts with the rise in the water level of major rivers.

The situation is reportedly grim in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Balasore and Cuttack districts.

In Ganjam district, the rainwater has entered several low-lying areas in Chhatrapur town. In Purushottampur, rainwater has been flowing at a height of about 6 feet near the college. As a result, road communication between Purushottampur and Berhampur has been disrupted.

Till reports last came, Loharakhandi and Badanadi were flowing at a height of 72.87 metres and 102.55 metres respectively.

In Kandhamal district, a major bridge connecting Baliguda and Bakingia has been swept away in flash flood. The water level of Salunki river was flowing near the danger level.

In Nayagarh district, two youths of Landapadu village under Odagaon block were swept away by the floodwater.

In Balasore district, the overnight torrential rain has led to the rise in the water level of Jalaka river, which is flowing at 5.8 metres against the danger mark of 5.5 metres.

On the other hand, road communication along the National Highway-53 has been disrupted at Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal due to the falling of big trees near Muktapasi.

In Khurda district, the low-lying areas of Begunia, Tangi and Chilika blocks continue to remain flooded with rainwater.

In Jatni, rainwater was flowing at a height of about 15 feet under the flyover in the market area.
