Sambalpur: Cyber frauds duped a man of Rs 3 lakh on the plea of updating his Know Your Customer (KYC) information in Odisha’s Sambalpur city.
According a complaint filed by the victim, Shiv Kumar Verma, at Sambalpur Cyber Police Station, he had received a message on his mobile phone on July 14 stating that his account in State Bank of India (SBI) will be blocked, if he would not update his KYC information.
Verma was also asked to click on a link to update his PAN card number. Without doubting the message or confirming with the SBI officials, he clicked on the link.
Then Verma received an OTP and a message to send it to the sender’s number. As soon as he sent the OTP, Rs 3 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account.
Later, Verma could know that he was cheated by cyber frauds and filed the complaint on July 18. The cyber police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
