Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man in an inebriated condition has allegedly killed his old mother for not preparing egg curry in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to police sources, Tribeni Naik of Gajapadar village under Tarsing police limits had left her house due to torture of her son Sanatan a few years back. She was working in a prawn processing factory in Andhra Pradesh. Sanatan’s wife had also left him for his short-temper nature and torture and is staying in her parents’ house.
Tribeni had come to her village on the occasion of Dussehra and was staying with her son. On Friday evening, Sanatan told his mother to cook egg curry for dinner and went out to take liquor. He returned home in highly intoxicated condition and told Tribeni to serve dinner.
As Tribeni had not prepared egg curry, Sanatan got infuriated and started beating her. Even as Tribeni fervently requested Sanatan to stop beating, he smashed his mother’s head on the kitchen wall several times. Profusely bleeding from head, Tribeni fell unconscious on the ground.
On hearing the cries of Tribeni and shouting of Sanatan, their neighbours gathered in front of the house. But none of them dared intervene in the matter or tried to rescue Tribeni in fear of Snatan’s anger. While they were witnessing the brutal attack, Sanatan hit his mother’s head severely with an iron pipe and Tribeni died on the spot.
On getting information, a team from Tarisng police station along with a scientific team went to Snatan’s house on Saturday morning. They sent Tribeni’s body for post-mortem and seized the murder weapon from the spot. The police have also arrested Snatan and registered a murder case against him, said IIC Pradipta Kumar Das.
