Dubai: Scotland have impressed one and all in the preliminary rounds of the T20 World Cup, which got underway in Oman and UAE three days ago.
They have won both matches so far, including an upset win over higher-ranked Bangladesh and are well placed to qualify for the tournament proper from Group B.
Matching their dazzling performance on field is the striking jersey in shades of purple. And what makes their attire for the mega event even more significant is the fact that it has been designed by a 12-year-old girl named Rebecca Downie.
Cricket Scotland had invited the public to suggest ideas for the team’s World Cup jersey. There were 200 entries, from which Rebecca’s was chosen.
Her design is based on the colour of ‘The Thistle, which is Scotland’s national emblem.
Cricket Scotland took to social media to acknowledge the young girl’s efforts along with a picture of her donning the kit and supporting the team during their first match against Bangladesh.
“Scotland’s kit designer 12-year-old Rebecca Downie from Haddington. She was following our first game on TV, proudly sporting the shirt she designed herself. Thank you again Rebecca!” the Scottish board wrote on its official Twitter handle.
Rebecca and her family were invited as special guests to a T20 International between Scotland and Zimbabwe last month, where she met the players.
