Puri: A major mishap was averted near Puri railway station in Odisha after a Talcher-Puri MEMU passenger train derailed on Friday. No one was reported to have been injured in the incident.
The incident took place around 500 metres from Puri station, near Platform No. 3 and the train was moving at a slow speed when the derailment occurred.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR), one wheel of the front trolley of Train No. 68413 Talcher–Puri MEMU derailed at 1.22 pm while entering Platform No.3.
All passengers were safely deboarded, and the train was quickly re-railed at 3.32 pm. No injuries were reported and there was no impact on other train movements, it said in a statement.
Sources said the train was moving at a relatively slow speed when the derailment occurred, which is believed to have prevented a potentially serious accident.
After receiving information, railway personnel and Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams reached the site and took steps to secure the area and manage the situation.
Teams were subsequently deployed to remove the derailed engine and clear the affected track.
