Mercury To Stay Above 40°C In Odisha Till Tomorrow; IMD Issues Orange & Yellow Alerts

Bhubaneswar: The blistering heatwave is likely to sear Odisha till tomorrow with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting that mercury will stay above 40 degree Celsius in most parts of the state.

Mainly due to prevalent northwesterly and westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the maximum (day) temperature is likely to be 40°C or above at most places of Odisha, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said on Saturday.

The day temperature is likely to be above normal by 3°C to 5°C over some parts of the state during the next 24 hours, it said., advising people to take precautionary measures while going outside during the day hours between 11 am and 3 pm.

As the searing heatwave continued unabated, Keonjhar was the hottest place in the state by 2.30 pm on Saturday, recording a maximum temperature of 43.5°C. Eight places registered temperature above 40°C in the state by 2.30 pm.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 40.5 degree Celsius, showing considerable drop in temperature from 43.6 degree measured on Thursday.

Several parts of the state are likely to get some respite from the searing heat as the MeT Centre predicted rain due to nor-wester activity from Sunday. Light to moderate rain/thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri, while dry weather will prevail over the rest of the state.

Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at some places over Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Angul, Boudh, Cuttack, and Keonjhar districts.

Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at a few places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, and Deogarh.

Yellow Warning:

Heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bargarh, and Rayagada.
Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Orange Warning:

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Angul.

Yellow Warning:

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.
Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khurda.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Balangir.
