Srinagar: Pakistan is continuing its aerial strikes on Jammu and Kashmir, or so it seems. Around 11.45 am on Saturday, a missile-like object crashed into the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Locals saw plumes of smoke rising from the water after the impact.
Residents have also reported hearing loud explosions since the morning. No injuries or damage to property has been reported though. Sources claimed that India activated its missile defence system after tracking aerial movement from the Pakistani side.
Another unidentified object was found at Lasjan, on the outskirts of Srinagar. This object, along with the one fished out from Dal Lake, have been sent for examination.
The twin discoveries have prompted heightened security checks in the area, with officials not ruling out any possibilities amid the ongoing India-Pakistan military escalation.
“These could be fragments of drones or missiles shot down by our defence system. The explosions could be from interceptions of these incoming objects. Pakistan is clearly attempting to escalate matters by attempting to strike targets in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. They are desperately trying to cause some major damage after the attack on Pakistani airports by our forces,” an official said.
There was panic all around though and residents claimed that power has been disconnected in some parts of Srinagar. Internet connectivity has also been hit, some claimed.
