Bhubaneswar: Southwest monsoon is likely to advance further and enter Odisha in the next 3–4 days, meteorological experts said on Sunday.
Weather conditions remain favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further and enter some parts of Odisha, over the next 3 to 4 days, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Dr Manorama Mohanty said.
Experts said weather conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the monsoon to advance into several parts of Odisha in the coming week.
They said atmospheric and oceanic conditions are supporting the further progress of the southwest monsoon towards eastern India.
The weather agency said the southwest monsoon has advanced into more parts of the west-central and entire northeast Bay of Bengal, as well as additional areas of the northwest Bay of Bengal. The monsoon has also covered the entire states of Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, besides extending into parts of Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on June 7.
It said conditions are conducive for the monsoon’s further advance into several regions, including parts of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It is also expected to cover the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and the southwest Bay of Bengal in the coming days.
For eastern India, the IMD has predicted the monsoon’s advance into some parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh during the next three to four days.
Arrival of the monsoon is expected to provide relief from the scorching heat and high level of humidity apart from benefiting the agricultural sector ahead of the kharif cultivation season.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), nor-wester storms are likely to continue in several parts of Odisha over the next few days.
The weather agency has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty surface winds and moderate rainfall across various districts till June 10.
