Kendrapada: A woman and her son on Wednesday alleged torture inside Marine police station at Talachua in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
They said both had been called to the police station over a family dispute and the Inspector-in-charge (IIC) allegedly tortured them.
According to sources, a man filed a complaint against his wife, son and daughter-in-law about being ill-treated at home. Following the complaint, his wife Annapurna Mandal and her son Anant Mandal were summoned to the police station in an effort to resolve the family dispute.
“They hit me on the hands and head with a baton after calling us here,” Annapurna told a local news channel.
“We visited the police station over a family fight. The IIC and havildar took me to the toilet and rained blows on me,” Anant alleged. The duo also showed injuries on their hands and back.
They received treatment at the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Rajnagar for their injuries, after leaving the police station.
The two later filed a complaint with sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Pattamundai against the alleged use of brute force over a simple case.
Refuting the allegations made by the mother-son duo, IIC Sandhyarani Jena said, “I counselled them for four hours to resolve their dispute. How can you imagine that I would assault anyone in a police station with CCTV cameras and people around?” she told a local news channel over phone.
