National Architects’ Convention Kicks Off In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The 34th national convention of Indian Institute of
Architects (IIA) titled “NATCON-2017” kicked off at Hotel Mayfair here
on Thursday.

The three-day event was graced by a special message received from Vice
President of India Venkaiah Naidu and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas
Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which was presented  by co-convener of
NATCON Raj Kunwar Nayak.

Inaugurating the three-day event, eminent architect from Sudan Haider
Ali said, “Architecture is a responsibility; we as architects have the
responsibility to create the society, harmony of the living also to
convert our imagination into reality.”

The welcome address was given by Chairman, IIA Odisha Chapter
Sagarendra Mohapatra. The theme Architectural Footprints- Impact on
Cities” was elaborated by NATCON convenor Sugata Mohanty.

Speaking on the occasion, architect B R Nayak expressed his concern
towards protecting and safeguarding the interest of the society. He
also focused on more work and responsibility towards the neglected
weaker section of the society.

Architect Amogh Gupta emphasised the role of the architects in the
smart cities and how the new system of the architecture will impact
the future development of the cities.

On the occasion of the centenary years of celebration, a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) was signed between IIA and Society of Nepal
Architects (SONA). Nepal Architect Anjumala Pradhan, Vice President
SONA was present.

A souvenir on the theme of “Architectural Foot Prints – Impact on
Cities” was also unveiled by the chief guest.

Senior architects K K Sur, K B Mohapatra and Adikanta Biswal were
facilitated on this occasion, which was followed by Odissi dance
performance choriographed by Ansuman Mishra.

The vote of thanks was given by Vice Chairman, IIA, Odisha Chapter
Mousami Nanda.

All the members of IIA Odisha Chapter, academicians and architect
Students from different Institutes were present on this occasion.

NATCON is happening in Bhubaneswar after a long gap of 24 years. This
year also IIA is celebrating its 101st year of foundation.
