Odia film ‘Khyanika-The Lost Idea’ to be screened at UK fest

Bhubaneswar: Another proud moment for filmmaker Amartya Bhattacharyya, whose independent Odia film ‘Khyanika-The Lost Idea’ will be screened at Cardiff International Film Festival, UK, on October 29.

The festival is beginning October 27 this year.

Produced under the banner of Swastik Arthouse, the film features Amrita Choudhury as Idea and Susant Misra and Swastik Choudhury as aspiring painter and poet respectively. Choudhury Bikash Das plays a mad man while Hrushikesh Bhoi (Kansha in Dhanuyatra) depicts ‘Fate’. Ollywood diva Anu Choudhury has a guest appearance in the film.

The filmmaker has personified Idea as a beautiful young lady free of all bondages. The film revolves around the tussle between a poet and painter, justifying their claim over the idea through their art forms. “Idea is free and universal. One can depict the same idea in different ways,” said Bhattacharyya.

The film has been shot in and around Puri and Bhubaneswar with a DSLR camera, he added.

Bhattacharya’s first movie Capital-I, a psychodrama, had received accolades in various film festivals. “While Capital-I was a serious film, Khyanika is satirical in tone,” said the filmmaker.

The 89-minute-long film had earlier received rave reviews at Hidden Gems Film Festival in Calgary and Mosaic South Asian Film Festival 2017 at Mississaunga, Ontario, in Canada.
