Bhubaneswar: Members of Snake Helpline rescued a 12-foot deadly venomous King Cobra from a fish net in Ganjam district.
According to a volunteer of Snake Helpline, Swapnalok Mishra, a fisherman Raj Kumar Tahal had cast his net in a rivulet of Chilika lake on Monday evening. On Tuesday morning, when he went to collect the catch, Raj found a huge snake inside the net. He immediately contacted Snake Helpline.
Mishra reached the spot and went to the spot in a boat. The snake was brought in the fish net to the banks and rescued from the net.
The reptile was later released in a natural habitat as it had no apparent injuries, said Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline.
“King Cobras don’t eat fish. Therefore, I presume it somehow gone into the net while crossing the river stream. Once it entered into the net, it was trapped inside,” Mallick said.
