Odisha: 3 Tourists Swept Away In Puri Sea; Woman From Chhattisgarh Dies, 2 Rescued
Puri: In an unfortunate incident, three tourists were swept away by strong currents while taking bath in the sea in Odisha’s Puri around 11 am on Tuesday.
According to sources, one woman lost her life, whose body has been recovered, while two others were rescued by lifeguards from Blue Flag Beach. The deceased has been identified as Minakshi Nayak of Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh.
The deceased woman had come to Puri along with six others. They were bathing in the sea near Digabareni Khunti when three of them were swept away by high tides.
Sea Beach police sent Minakshi’s body for post-mortem to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH). A case of unnatural death has been filed.
However, the post-mortem will be conducted after her family members arrive as it has not yet been confirmed whether the six persons who were with her are her family members.
Police are questioning all the persons who accompanied Minakshi to Puri.
“We had issued a red flag warning for tourists due to the low-pressure condition. But unfortunately, they went into the sea and were swept away by strong currents. We managed to rescue two tourists,” the supervisor of Sea Beach police station told a local media channel.
“We have sounded red warning on Blue Flag beach, Niladri beach, Sector-14 and Chandrabhaga beach currently,” he added.
