Berhampur: Kanha, a five-year-old boy who underwent treatment for Werewolf Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, at MKCG Hospital and Medical College here, was discharged on Thursday.
Doctors have asked him to come for a follow-up after a fortnight. Further surgery will be conducted after three months, depending upon the child’s response to treatment.
The son of Mamata and Ramachandra Naik of Gayaganda village in Ganjam district, Kanha suffers from a rare skin syndrome. A teak of 12 doctors had conducted the first recuperative surgery at the hospital on July 26. It included Professor Raju Das, the Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, Charan Panda, Superintendent of MKCG and the Dean, Radha Madhav Tripathy.
The surgery to cure the child of excess hair and flesh growth on his body went on for five hours and skin from the boy’s thigh was grafted onto his face.
