Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) plant in Kalinga Nagar, in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
Also present at the event were Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Industries Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Co-operation Pradeep Bal Samanta, Jajpur MP Rabindra Narayan Behera, Odisha MLAs Akash Das Nayak and Amar Nayak along with senior IMFA members.
CM Majhi has focused on Odisha’s industrial development since taking oath a year ago. His Make-in-Odisha Conclave commitments have been converted to reality with companies from across India and abroad beginning groundwork for their projects in the state. The CM has ensured generation of 36,000 jobs in the industrial sector In his effort to make Odisha self-reliant.
The Kalinga Nagar facility, spread across 124.26 acres, will produce 100,000 metric tonnes of ferro chrome annually, with phase 1 expected by Q1 FY2026-27.
The plant will feature cutting-edge technology and complement IMFA’s integrated sites at Choudwar and Therubali, enhancing total production capacity to 3,84,000 tonnes and reinforcing its position as India’s leading producer of value-added ferro chrome.
“We remain deeply committed to Odisha’s development. This facility will not only elevate the state’s industrial credentials but also support IMFA’s growth through sustainable and advanced practices,” said IMFA managing director Subhrakant Panda.
IMFA, a pioneer in ferro alloys, has also entered into a joint venture with JSW Green Energy to supply 110 MW of hybrid renewable energy to power the smelting process at the Kalinga Nagar facility. It will enhance IMFA’s green credentials and also serve as a proactive step towards building a greener future, thereby supporting India’s mission of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
