Berhampur: A couple in this southern Odisha town has become the talk of the town by taking their wedding vows on a copy of the Indian Constitution.
Retired government employee Bidyut Prabha Rath administered the oath to the newlywed Biplab Kumar (31) and Anita (23) on Sunday in presence of family members, relatives and guests.
The guests also participated in a voluntary blood donation, in which 36 units were collected.
Biplab works with a pharmaceutical firm, while Anita is an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM).
“There was no matching of horoscopes or chanting of hymns. It was a simple eco-friendly function with no crackers or loud music. We also avoided the ‘baratis,” Bilap said.
Anita is equally happy to have started her new life with invitees donating blood for a noble cause.
“I am a rationalist and do not believe in age-old religious practices. We kept it simple,” said Biplab’s father Mohan Rao.
However, they are not the first to do so. On January 26, Prithwik Misha, an engineer ,and Mandakini Panda, a Political Science lecturer, got married here with the Constitution of India as their witness.
